Nora is a psychiatrist, neuroscientist, and internationally recognized leader in addiction research. Since 2003, she has served as Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), overseeing the world’s largest portfolio of research on drug use and addiction. A pioneer in the use of brain imaging, Volkow’s groundbreaking work established addiction as a chronic brain disease and advanced understanding of the neurobiology of substance use, obesity, ADHD, and aging. She has authored hundreds of scientific publications and is widely recognized for her contributions to neuroscience, public health, and evidence-based addiction policy.
