Senator Mitchell is Partner and Chairman Emeritus at DLA Piper and a former U.S. Senator and Majority Leader. Appointed to the Senate in 1980, he went on to lead major legislation including the Clean Air Act reauthorization, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and key trade agreements such as North American Free Trade Agreement. In 2008, Time named him one of the world’s most influential people.
Mitchell played a pivotal diplomatic role as U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Peace and as chair of the Northern Ireland peace process, helping secure the Good Friday Agreement. A recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, he has also led high-profile international investigations and public service initiatives.
