Jacquelyn Gill

Professor of Paleoecology

Leadership & Management

Dr. Jacquelyn is a paleoecologist, climate scientist, and educator whose research explores how ecosystems respond to environmental change across deep time. She is an Assistant Professor at the Climate Change Institute and the School of Biology and Ecology at the University of Maine, where she directs the BEAST Lab (Biodiversity and Environments Across Space and Time).

An expert in Ice Age ecology, Gill uses fossil records and other natural archives to investigate biodiversity, extinction events, and ecological responses to climate change. Her work provides valuable insights into how past environmental shifts can inform strategies for addressing modern climate challenges and ecosystem resilience.

Gill’s research on the ecological consequences of Ice Age extinctions earned her the prestigious Ecological Society of America Cooper Award. In addition to her academic work, she is a science communicator and co-host of Warm Regards, a podcast dedicated to thoughtful conversations about climate change, science, and society. Through her research and public engagement, Gill helps bridge the gap between past environmental change and the future of a warming world.
